Background
Internet Governance is the development and application by governments, the private sector, and civil society, in their respective roles, of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures, and programs that shape the evolution and use of the Internet.
The Uganda School of Internet Governance (USIG) is an annual fellowship organised by the Internet Society Uganda Chapter. This initiative aims to create a platform where professionals from diverse sectors and backgrounds acquire meaningful skills to enable them to participate in Internet Governance activities at local, national, regional, and international levels. Since its rollout, the school is more inclined towards raising new Internet governance participants who will make great impacts in shaping the Internet in Uganda and beyond.
This year, in partnership with Internet Society Global, Uganda Chapter is calling for eligible Ugandans from the public sector to apply for the 4th School of Internet Governance which will take place from July 01 – 26, 2024.
Objectives
To equip participants and stakeholders with the necessary knowledge, skills and deepen participants’ comprehension of Internet governance principles, frameworks, and challenges.
The core specific objectives of the school are: –
- Increasing participants’ understanding of Internet governance.
- Equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively participate in the internet governance discussions and forums at local, regional, and international fora.
- Increasing the mass of Ugandans contributing to the internet policy making in Uganda and globally and providing a space for networking opportunities for different stakeholders

- Introduction to Internet governance
- Main concepts in Internet governance
- Internet governance processes and how to get involved.
- Global, regional and local Internet policy, legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Multi-stakeholder engagement in global internet governance.
Study Format
The UgSIG will take place over 4 weeks in a hybrid format. Participants will undertake self-paced online classes and face-to-face workshops. The training will take a mix of lectures and interactive activities as participants get to listen to experts and practitioners devour different Internet governance topics.
The training will be conducted in English language.
Participation
For the 4th school of Internet Governance, our target participants are government staff. In particular, we are seeking out Policy makers, Police officers, parliamentarians, Regulators and other ministry staff interested in learning about Internet Governance and applying the knowledge in their work and wish to contribute to Internet Governance Policy issues within their line of work.
